I just bought 3 fancy tailed guppies, and 4 neons. One of the guppies was pregnant and had 18 babies today! Congrats to mom! Here is my question.How many babies should survive? All of them are out swimming around in the tank and they are not being bothered by any of the other fish. I found this odd considering most fish will torment babies or kill them. I guessing that all the other fish are to small themselves to be any danger to the babies.

Consider yourself lucky. You may have a protective mom who discourages the eating of fry, or you have a well-adjusted tank that doesn't cause the fish enough stress to make them eat the fry. The number of fry a guppy will have varies greatly on tank conditions and diet. It you start adding pureed beef heart and earthworm flakes to their diet you can expect more then 50 viable fry/batch and in increase in lifespan.

you mean 1st she layed eggs THEN the babies hatched.
you should still keep them separate. the eggs should've been separate, i'm surprised they didn't eat the eggs.

You must seperate them from the adults immediatly, the adults will eat them. Put them in a seperate tank with weed to hide in or get a plastic seperator from your pet shop.
They need to stay in there till they are about 1/2 grown, you still need to feed them.
They should all be ok if you get them away from the adults, they are pretty hardy fish.
You might be a lucky one and some survive! A lot of the time they do get eaten, but if your tank has enough safe spots and since you only have 3 guppies, you may have a chance. Neons aren't too aggressive, so good luck!

Usually community fish will not bother the babies, however it is not always the case.
If the fish are big wnough, not matter how docile, they can eat the babies.
Your babies will probably be fine, but you can buy a breeding box or hang-on aquarium for them to be sure.
Local pet stores will usualy buy fish once they are old enough. They don't go for much, but at least you wont have too many fish.

Uhh, guppies are live bearers (technically, the eggs hatch inside them). And what's your secret? I had guppies as a kid back in the '70s, couldn't keep them from breeding. Now, have had an aquarium since like 1995, can't get the guppies to breed.
Guppies do not lay eggs, they have live babies. Don't move the babies. They are very fragile and can be easily killed by trying to capture and move them. Guppies think baby guppies are the best food ever so they do need protection. What you need to do is get some attractive plastic plants from the pet shop and gently put them in your aquarium. Grassy plants and plants with lots of small leaves will help the babies hide better than plants with 2 or 3 big leaves. Don't get live plants for baby fish. Too often they are grown outdoors and carry parasites and insects that can kill baby fish.
you dont have to sepperate them.. As long as you have the same type of fish in the tank.. Guppies always have live babies.they are a hard water fish . Angels and discus have soft water and lay eggs.. If it is a new tank they may die.if the tank has been establishe for awile they will probably live..No-one can be sure how many though
About 70% will survive, you must remember the neons are egg layers and they love eating young fry, so do yourself a favor and get som spawning grass for them to hide in, the guppies are used to having larger fish in the tank and therefor will not eat the fry, and they were also spawned in a community tank, where they were left to fend for themselves
You should keep the babies separately if possible. However, if you for some reason cannot, then place large stones and many water plants for the babies to hide, Usually some babies will grow up and you will run out of space. Be careful with your filter and pumps as the babies may get sucked and trapped there.
Feed your fishes adequate so they will not devour the babies.
Also guppies and neons require different type of water.
Guppies like hard water while neons prefer soft lower pH purer water with low levels of carbonates and dissolved minerals.
Unlikely you will ever get the neons to breed inside.
By the time you read this you might be lucky to have 3 or 4 left unless you have reedgrass for them to hide in. Guppies eat thier own when hungry.
