yes,,it takes work.get a good syphon, and every day, suck out about ten percent of the water. suck it from the gravel, so ya get all the crud. Put clean water back in.do it at least 4 times a week, and you will have the nice looking water you want

Don't put fishes in the tanks. Make a good meal of them if possible. Add a little bleach in the water each day.
The water will stay crystal clear.

Get a charcoal filtration system that is rated for a much larger tank than what you have. You will have to clean it much less, and you will be impressed with the results. Usually a tank with less than clear water has a filtration system that just meets the tank's needs, or is even less than it should be.

good filtration and circulation. i am going to assume your tank is anywhere from 40 gallons to 100 gallons. i would get 2 power heads to circulate the water. a canister filter -and- and wet/dry filter. this is the setup that i have, and my water is clear. if you want it to look extra crystal clear, get an acryllic tank. don't expect to have crystal clear water while the tank is cycling, it will take a couple of weeks.

Yes,,, My husband did this and I thought he was full of it but it really works and keeps on working for a long time. We have a big fresh water tank with several fish and no algea eater and the tank stays crystal clear. Sprinkle table salt all over your filter and then rinse it a little with water and put it back in.. You will see the difference in a few days and it wont harm your fish.. I was afraid it would but all is well and my tank is beautiful.

Regular water changes each week, and if you still have problems with cloudy water (after your tank has fully cycled) you may have a probem with Phosphates. This is a more recent problem that has been cropping up from the use of tap water, but is curable with things like Phos Zorb or Phos-X.

The only good answers posted here are weekly water changes(about 15-25% depending on your tank size %26 # of fish) and adequate filtration for your tank size %26 # of fish. I'd stay away from the charcoal filters, only a temporary fix. Those 2 things will keep your tank/fish healthy.
